What a thrill it was to see this large antique reproduction featuring the coats of arms of 134 noble Neapolitan families, alongside the royal arms of the House of Bourbon. Part of a friend’s private collection, this rare piece is a detailed segment from the upper right corner of the Great Topographical Map of Naples, dedicated to Carlo di Borbone (1716–1788), the first Bourbon king of Naples. The original map is prominently displayed in the lobby of the historic Hotel Excelsior in Napoli, a fitting home for such a majestic tribute to the city’s aristocratic past.
