Deus, qui in assuúmptæ carnis infirmitáte Clavis affígi, et Láncea vulnerári pro mundi salúte voluísti: concéde propítius; ut, qui eorúndem Clavórum, et Lánceæ solémnia venerámur in terris, de glorióso victóriæ tuæ triúmpho gratulémur in cælis: Qui vivis.Friday after the first Sunday in Lent is the Feast of the Holy Lance (Spear of Longinus) and Nails of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Instituted in 1354 by Pope Innocent VI at the behest of Emperor Charles IV, the feast enjoins the faithful to venerate the sacred instruments of Our Savior’s Passion.
