San Nicola bringing back to life the three murdered and pickled infants |
Following our public Rosary rally for Christmas in Herald Square and Holy Mass at the Shrine Church of the Holy Innocents (128 W 37th St.) in Manhattan Saturday afternoon, I attended the Sacred Art Conference in the parish hall, where the Seven Miracles of San Nicola di Bari from the Papenhoek Collection attributed to Corrado Giaquinto, or his atelier, were displayed for perusal and private devotion.
Hosted by Juventutem NYC, the dynamic local chapter of the global network of Catholic young adults, ages 18 to 40, the conference featured interesting talks about “Churches as sacred spaces that consecrate and defend the consecrated,” and “Sanctifying Grace and Sacred Beauty” by Fr. Leo Camurati, O.P. and Prof. Dr. Sarah Maple respectively. The third and final speaker was Prof. Dr. Alphonso Pinto, who spoke about Giaquinto’s paintings and the miracles of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
The event concluded with a young adult social replete with mulled wine, hot chocolate and Advent fare, which is where I took my leave.
