Santa Monica, ora pro nobis |
May 4th is the Feast of Santa Monica (c.322-387AD), mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. She is the patron saint of wives, difficult marriages, victims of adultery and abuse, widows, despondent mothers, and the conversion of relatives. In celebration, we're posting a Prayer to St. Monica. The accompanying photo of Santa Monica, courtesy of Nancy Loguercio Speranza, was taken in the Chapel of the Crucifix in the Chiesa di Santo Stefano on the Isle of Capri in the Bay of Naples. Evviva Santa Monica!
Prayer to St. Monica
Exemplary Mother of the Great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son, not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven. Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.
