Sanfedisti Getaway Part 1: Exploring Pittsburgh, PA and the 2022 Catholic Identity Conference

Traveling across God's country
For the second year in a row we took a multi-state road trip to the Catholic Identity Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. Due to unforeseen time constraints our post-conference excursion had to be cut short, so instead of revisiting the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky and honkytonks in Nashville, TN we decided to make a pilgrimage to St. Anthony's Chapel [See Part 2] and check out Cleveland's Little Italy [See Part 3].

Approaching Pittsburgh we made a brief stop at DeLallo Italian Market in Jeannette, PA for some provisions and a lite snack.

We put together peppers and cheese sandwiches on crispy
Italian bread, aka "Basilicata sticks," for
vegetarian Wednesday
We briefly explored the city before checking into our hotel*
Thursday morning we visited Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish (Institute of Christ the King) for Holy Confession and Michaelmas.

After Mass we had lunch at Pennsylvania's first Neapolitan pizzeria, Il Pizzaiolo in Mt. Lebanon, PA.
We enjoyed Almond '22 Brewery's Farrotta, an acacia honey and
spelt brewed golden ale from the green hills of Pescara, Abruzzo
Antipasto Napoli
Salsiccia e rapini pizza
After lunch we walked off our meal in Pittsburgh’s Little Italy.

Unfortunately St. Joseph's Church was closed for renovations
We visited the famous Maria Merante at 4723 Liberty Avenue
Warmly welcomed by Maria herself, the neighborhood matriarch
treated us to some of her delicious homemade anise bread
while kindly regaling us with stories about Little Italy
We had an equally delightful time with Sister Mary Madalyn Schleifer
and Sharon Oldaker at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Store at 4515 Liberty Avenue
Naturally, I picked up a few gifts
At nearby St. Mary Cemetery, we prayed for
the poor and forgotten Souls in Purgatory

Working up an appetite, we had dinner at the original Primanti Brothers Bar and Grill.

We had beer and a couple "Tall Boys"
Spicy batter-dipped pub pickles

their sandwiches with coleslaw and fries
I got the delicious, but decadent "When Pigs Fly"
From Friday, October 30th to Sunday, September 2nd, some sixteen different speakers and over 700 attendees answered the call to "resist Pope Francis and the New World Order" at the 2022 Catholic Identity Conference. Traditional Latin Mass was celebrated every day.

While all the vendors offered top quality religious wares at their tables (books, jewelry, clothing, etc.), I was truly blown away by the array of embossed oil paintings available at the Exquisite Religious Paintings booth. Anyone interested in purchasing one of these amazing paintings from them can inquire at exquisitereligiouspaintings@gmail.com.
A large collection of unframed canvas paintings were available
Beautiful embossed paintings of an angel and Our Lady of Guadalupe
After the Conference, we were invited to a phenomenal afterparty in West Virginia. Special thanks to our most gracious hosts, we had a fantastic time.
