Anti-Catholic Sentiment Within Greenwich Public Schools, How Far Does it Go?

Jeremy Boland in a Project Veritas video
Recently Cos Cob Elementary School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland was recorded stating that he discriminates against Catholics when hiring and also avoids hiring applicants who are older or Conservative. He also said that if someone is raised as a “hardcore Catholic” that it is like they are brainwashed and you can never change their mindset. Ironically, at the same time he praises Progressive teachers that deliver political messages to students without revealing their own political preferences, and who project those ideas as the “norm.”

Boland also stated that he wouldn’t consider people over 30 for positions because they cannot be changed and are more likely to side with the parents on specific issues. This reminds me of the Communist sponsored anti-establishment propaganda of the 1960s which told youths not to trust anyone over 30, at the time that would mean people who remembered the World Wars and the depression; in other words, people with real world experience who were less likely to be manipulated by left-wing ideologues.

Boland was placed on administrative leave following the comments. Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Toni Jones released the following in a statement:

"We do not support any opinions that promote discriminatory hiring practices based on race, religion, gender, or age in any way, and we want to remind our entire community that our curriculum policies and procedures are strictly enforced by our Board."
I couldn’t help but notice that the statement did not include anything about discriminating against people of specific political persuasions. This shouldn’t surprise me, since compared to all the other things that were mentioned, that sort of discrimination gets the least attention and legal challenges. The Catholic angle, however, specifically violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and it is damning. Jeremy Boland is not in a good place right now, and in the past he could only hope to slip into obscurity, relocate, and find work elsewhere. Unfortunately, we live in times where we have political activists, who are also convicted murderers, gaslighting everyone else about morality, so who knows what will happen to him.

There is an additional point about the incident that needs to be faced, and it isn’t the recording of Boland without his consent (which is legal in that state), it is why he felt so comfortable talking to a stranger about his hiring practices. He didn’t seem at all worried about reprisal despite his illegal actions. People familiar with Greenwich Public Schools, including a former board member, have said that his opinions and actions are reflective of the culture within that institution. He isn’t alone. Who did he help streamline into positions and who helped put him in a position to hire other people?

Fred Camillo, Greenwich’s Republican First Selectman, sees this and is taking action. He stated:

"We want it to be a totally independent investigation to see if this is pervasive and how far it goes up, how wide it is.”

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont (Democrat), who also sees a potential problem, said that The Connecticut State Department of Education is monitoring the situation, and that:

"Discrimination of any kind has no place in Connecticut, especially in our public schools. This is not aligned with our Connecticut values."

Maybe Governor Lamont even means that, but I’m not optimistic about his subordinates uncovering anything. The more incidents they uncover the worse his party looks. He could be as honest as they come, but he won’t be personally investigating.

We’ll see how deep either investigation goes, but if the last few decades, and especially the last few years, are any indication, they are likely to sacrifice Jeremy Boland and pretend that this is an isolated incident (if not to be pragmatic, then to punish his carelessness). People uneasy with the methods used by Project Veritas to expose Boland should consider that his sort of behavior was considered in line with the culture in Greenwich Public Schools, and that absolutely nothing was done about it until that recording exposed him widely on the internet.

Boland’s supporters would naturally want to focus on how the information was obtained instead of the content, despite the recording being perfectly legal in Connecticut. They can't openly defend what he said without backlash.

The Catholics are speaking up, but groups that normally receive funding specifically to fight discrimination seem to be absent from the news articles that I’ve seen, even groups that would be disproportionately affected by anti-Catholic discrimination. Those groups do seem to align themselves politically so perhaps they are uncomfortable calling out discrimination against Catholics by Progressives in Greenwich, which in my eyes significantly reduces their credibility.

As I said, Catholics are speaking up and defending themselves. This is good, because other than some Conservative groups that are being vilified, and a couple of politicians reacting retroactively to a known issue, it doesn’t appear that anyone else is defending them.
