Charles Coulombe Returns to Bronxville, New York

Always obliging, Charles and the remaining guests take a commemorative photo at the end of the night with the flag of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies
Thursday evening we once again had the great pleasure of catching up with America’s favorite Catholic monarchist, Charles Coulombe. The fifth stop on his current whirlwind book tour in the North East United States, Charles and his retinue held court at J.C. Fogarty’s Town Tavern (60 Kraft Ave.) in Bronxville, New York to promote his latest treatise, Blessed Charles of Austria: A Holy Emperor and His Legacy (TAN, 2020).

Originally scheduled to take place at Riverview Tavern in Cold Spring, New York, the change in venue actually afforded us the opportunity to celebrate the Feast of Santa Chiara d’Assisi earlier in the day with friends at Antonio’s Trattoria (2370 Belmont Ave.) in Little Italy, the Bronx. Skipping dessert, which took Herculean might, we took our leave and made it just in the nick of time for the get-together with Charles.

After some delicious antipasti and pasta courses, I enjoyed an outstanding grilled pork chop with cherry peppers, tomato, sliced sausage and polenta
Joining some fourteen, mostly young, men and lady we had the opportunity to bend his erudite ear on a variety of topics, beside the Blessed Emperor. Regardless of how serious or whimsical the subject, the jovial doyen of history and monarchism did his best to answer all our questions while keeping the mood of the evening ebullient and positive.

A big fan of these smaller, more intimate, meet-and-greets, Charles always makes it a point to mingle and spend some time with each attendee. Genuine and down to earth, the loquacious card with an air of gravitas you see on his popular Off the Menu podcast is actually what you get in person. Watching him in action, it is easy to understand why he is immensely loved and admired the world over, especially by young Occidental men hungry for some traditional Catholic guidance during these strange and uncertain times.

We wish the maestro safe travels and much success on the rest of his tour and, as always, w
e look forward to seeing him again when he returns to our neck of the woods. Godspeed, brave knight.
