Cherishing Our History and Culture in Brooklyn

Viva San Paolino! Viva ‘o Rre!

During their recent visit to Campania, the Bourbon Royal Family were Mayor Geremia Biancardi's guests of honor at the Festa dei Gigli in Nola. Warmly welcomed by the populace, hundreds of Bourbon flags were seen among the revelers in Piazza Duomo. One of the spires (there are eight in Nola) was even decorated with the Bourbon coat of arms and its band played Inno al Re, the national anthem of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies composed by Giovanni Paisiello.
The outpouring of affection and enthusiasm for the Royal Family carried over to this year's Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and San Paolino di Nola in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In solidarity with our brethren back in Nola, a handful of Duosiciliani-Americans proudly flew their ancestral flag. A curiosity to most, I'm happy to say more than a few people recognized the symbol and expressed their approval and support.
Forza e onore!
