Yesterday was the lifting of the Children's Gilio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As much as I enjoy watching the adults do it, there is something very special about seeing our next generation embracing our traditions. The children wore red scarves, white outfits and hats with flowers. They streamed from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to take their places at the gilio to prepare to lift, and were accompanied by a brass band playing patriotic and traditional tunes.

I was grateful to get the few pictures that I could because the young ones were surrounded by a protective ring of well wishers and enthusiastic parents. Seeing their relatives love for them was something else to be grateful for.
