A Visual Appetizer

Artisans apply last minute touch-ups to the giglio facade outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Final preparations were underway Friday (June 29, 2012) for the upcoming Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and San Paolino Di Nola in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Thanks Domenic Varuzza for the sneak peek of this year's giglio!
Looking a bit like an oil rig, the tower is erected and ready for its papier-mâché exterior. Traditionally constructed from wood, the Williamsburg giglio is made of aluminum. From what I understand, this is less forgiving on the lifters' shoulders, making their act of devotion more grueling and rewarding.
As usual, the tower is a thing of beauty.
San Paolino's Boat is taken out of storage and ready to sail across the crowed.
The 2012 Our Lady of Mount Carmel and San Paolino Di Nola Feast will be held from Thursday July 5th through Monday July 16th.
