Adésto, Dómine, supplicatiónibus nostris: et intercessióne beáti Lauréntii Mártyris tui, cujus prævénimus festivitátem; perpétuam nobis misericórdiam benígnts impénde. August 9th is the Vigil of St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr. Keeping with the old custom, it is a day of fasting and abstinence. If the Vigil falls on a Sunday, it is moved to the preceding Saturday. Evviva San Lorenzo!
* Attend, O Lord, to our supplications, and by the intercession of Thy blessed martyr, Lawrence, whose feast we anticipate, graciously bestow upon us Thy everlasting mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
