Holy Mother of God, ora pro nobis

October 11th is the Feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Holy Mother of God (Theotokos). In celebration, I’m posting a prayer in Latin and English for the Feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The accompanying photo of the Virgin of Materdei (1470) attributed to Domenico Gagni (c. 1425-1492) was taken at the Palatine Chapel (Cappella Palatina) inside the Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) in Napoli.

Prayer

Deus qui de beátæ Mariæ Vírginis utero Verbum tuum. Angelo nuntiánte, carnem suscípere voluísti: præsta supplícibus tuis; ut qui vere eam Genitrícem Dei, crédimus, ejus apud te intercessiónibus adjuvémur. Per eúmdem Dóminum.

O God, Who wast pleased that at the angel's message Thy Word should take flesh in the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary, grant to Thy suppliants that, believing her to be truly the mother of God, we may be assisted by her intercessions with Thee. Through the same.
