Sahara West Library
9600 W Sahara Avenue
Las Vegas, Nevada 89117

The talk is part of the Discovering Italy Series offered through the Sahara West Library. Matera is a town in Basilicata in the arch of the boot of Italy.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Matera is famous for its remarkable “Sassi” neighborhoods carved out of stone and this year has been named European Capital of Culture. Come hear this ancient city’s unique story of survival and human achievement and see the evocative beauty that captivates film directors and attracts visitors from all over the world.

The talk will be given by Karen Haid, the award-winning author of Calabria: The Other Italy, a nonfiction book that explores daily life, culture, history, food and tourism of the region in the toe of the Italian boot. She is currently working on a book about Basilicata, the home to Matera.
