Light the Night Walk

The following post was reprinted with permission from G-Love Victorious' Light The Night Walk homepage.

Come join us for the Light The Night Walk on Saturday, October 2, 2010.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

On January 20, 2010 my husband Jerry (Gennaro) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) a form of blood cancer that progresses quickly if not treated. Thankfully our wonderful primary doctor acted quickly and we ended up at New York Presbyterian Cornell/Weill Hospital, where Jerry was in the very capable hands of Dr. Eric Feldman and his AMAZING team. After a very intense induction chemotherapy, Jerry's cancer went into remission. He then went on to FIGHT through 4 rounds of consolidation chemotherapy to make sure there were no remaining leukemia cells in his body. The fight got harder and harder with each round. It was a long, grueling, process with lots of ups and downs, but in the end my G-LOVE was Victorious! We never had any doubt!

He is a true HERO...my HERO... Gianluca & Maggee's HERO......our HERO because he never gave up. He never once thought he wouldn't beat this. His amazing attitude, strength and perseverance guided him through. He went through hell with dignity and grace! He stared cancer in the face and smashed it! His journey isn't over, but hopefully the hard part is. He will now follow up with monthly blood tests and bone marrow biopsy's for the next few years. We pray this disease never enters our lives again or the lives of others and hope that our fundraising efforts help cancer research for the future! We need a cure!

Our friends and family have been there for us every single step of the way. From our amazing family to close friends, old friends, new friends, co-workers and even people we haven't seen in years... you have all helped in many different ways! We never would have been able to do this together as much as we have if it weren't for your support. From babysitting, money, endless love, lots of prayers, encouragement, home cooked meals, car rides, cards, visits, daily thoughts, much love, inspiration and just everything! We love you all so very much and we THANK YOU for supporting us!!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

In fact, in 2009 alone, LLS researchers were conducting more than 90 clinical trials, a critical step in the development of new treatments and cures that will help patients live better, longer lives.

• A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.

• A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.

• A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.

• A donation of $1,000 makes possible one-on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!

Come join our team—G-Love Victorious—as we walk to fight this horrible disease and save the lives of everyone fighting it!
Thank You Everyone!
PEACE!
